Hailing from Peru, Victor “Dito” Chavez, has been practicing sandboarding in the desert region of Ica since childhood. Through the support of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Dito has transitioned to the snow and will start at the FIS Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard World Championships in Bakuriani (GEO). But competing at the FIS World Championships is just one of his achievements.

Peru has limited snow fall and as such sandboarding and sandskiing is the predominant activity to bring children to the snow. Over the years Dito and his club, Snowboard Club Peru have been working with the FIS SnowKidz and World Snow Day programmes. Their events have focused on giving kids in the region a chance to try sandboarding with the hopes of getting them on the snow. Since starting with the SnowKidz and World Snow Day programmes, Snowboard Club Peru’s have brought over 150 kids to sandboarding and created a series of programmes that his community enjoys and respects.

“One of the main goals of Snowboard Club Peru is to inspire local kids in Ica” said Dito. By competing at the World Championships Dito hopes that he will lead by example and show kids it is possible to reach the snow.
